Question

About the Material

Q.
Which side has the stainless steel coating?
A.

The side that looks gray when held up to sunlight or light is the stainless steel-coated side. Please use with the black side facing the inside of the room and the gray side facing the sun.
The stainless steel coating is designed to reflect sunlight and reduce heat penetration.

Q.
Does the net have a vertical or horizontal orientation?
A.

The appearance changes depending on whether the material is oriented vertically or horizontally, so we recommend that you match the orientation of the material.
Its performance does not change whether oriented vertically or horizontally, so please install it according to the size and shape of your window.

Q.
Will there be fraying after cutting it with scissors?
A.

It is made with a “knit mesh” material that resists fraying, so there should be no problems even if you cut it with scissors.

Q.
Can it catch on fire in the sunlight?
A.

The material will not catch on fire from solar heat.
However, the net itself is flammable. Please do not expose it to fire under any circumstances.

Q.
Can I sew leftover pieces of the net together with a sewing machine, etc. and use it?
A.

Sewing pieces together and using them is not a problem.
However, please refrain from layering two pieces of the net on top of each other. (see No. 16).

Q.
I’ve used Cool Net before. How is Cool Up different?
A.

The mesh structure is more intricate than Cool Net.
This improves its heat shielding, UV protection and visibility reducing effects, and it is also been made washable as well.

About Glass

Q.
Can I use it on glass that has metal wires in it (wire mesh glass)?
A.

It can be used on the outer (outdoor) side of wire mesh glass without any problems. However, we ask that you please refrain from using it on the inner (indoor) side of the glass. Wire mesh glass has a structure that is more fragile than regular single-pane glass, so there is a possibility of it thermal cracking due to the heat load.
*For customers who wish to use Cool-Up on the inner side of the window:
Thermal cracking is not an inevitability, as it only occurs in a small number of cases.
However, please note that the customer bears responsibility if thermal cracking occurs due to the product being used on the inner side. Internal information shows that out of 420,000 units sold, there were only 7 instances of thermal cracking, a 0.002% incidence rate.

Q.
Can I use it on Low-E glass?
A.

It can be used on the outer (outdoor) side of the glass without any problems.
However, we ask that you please refrain from using it on the inner (indoor) side of the glass. Low-E glass has a structure that is more fragile than regular single-pane glass, so there is a possibility of it thermal cracking due to the heat load.
*For customers who wish to use Cool-Up on the inner side of the window:Thermal cracking is not an inevitability, as it only occurs in a small number of cases.
However, please note that the customer bears responsibility if thermal cracking occurs due to the product being used on the inner side.

Q.
Can I use it on frosted or colored glass?
A.

If the surface of the glass is smooth, then you can use it on either the inner or outer side.

About the Fasteners

Q.
Can I purchase surface fasteners separately?
A.

Please inquire with the retail shop where you purchased your Cool-Up.

About Attaching & Effects

Q.
Is the effect the same whether it’s installed on the inner or outer side of the glass?
A.

Cool Up is more effective if you install it on the outer side of the glass, as it can reflect sunlight directly.
The difference in effect between installation on the inner and outer side is approximately 1°C.

Q.
Is there a heat shield effect even when it is attached to a screen?
A.

Yes, there is also a heat shield effect even when it is attached to a screen. (Please note that it cannot be attached directly to the screen itself.)
Its mesh design allows airflow while also providing a heat shield effect.

Q.
Is there really an 11°C heat shield effect (with Cool Up)?
A.

The heat shield effect suppresses the increase in room temperature by reducing the amount of direct sunlight that enters the room by approximately 11°C.
The actual effect may differ based on your particular usage environment conditions.
Please understand that it does not have an effect of lowering the temperature of the entire room.

Q.
Is there 11°C heat shield effect (with Cool Up) even when sunlight isn’t hitting the window?
A.

Cool Up Heat Shield is a product that suppresses the increase in room temperature by reflecting direct sunlight and reducing the amount that enters the room by approximately 11°C.
It is difficult for that effect to be adequately felt if there is no direct sunlight.
However, since it also reduces the amount of UV radiation, it can be expected to delay the effects of sun damage to furniture and floors.

Q.
Is Cool Up effective if I place it over a layer of heat shield film?
Also, is it okay to do that?
A.

*When the heat shield film is attached to the inner side of the window:
Using Cool Up on the outer side of the window. By adding to the effect of the heat shield film already in place, you can expect the effects of both that and Cool Up.
Using Cool Up on the inner side of the window: Please refrain from using both on the same side of the window. There is a risk of the surface fastener not being affixed properly, and the glass itself will retain heat more easily, which can cause thermal cracking.

Q.
Is it okay to partially attach it or layer it?
A.

Please refrain from partial attachment or layering.
There is a risk of thermal cracking or damage to the glass due to the temperature difference it would create.

Q.
How strong of a wind can it withstand?
A.

Please remove Cool Up in situations when strong winds are expected.

Q.
Is it necessary to make square holes in the net itself?
The design sold by Jupiter doesn't require holes to be made.
A.

Cool Net heat shield requires that holes be made in the net in order to make affixing the surface fasteners easier.
Customers are asked to make the holes themselves.

Q.
How many surface fasteners should I use for one window?
A.

We generally recommend 6 surface fasteners per window.
*Floor-length windows typically use 6 fasteners (on each corner and in the center on each long side)

Q.
It says that there is a mirror effect, but you can still see inside the room from outside...
A.

The mirror effect is an effect that reflects sunlight, which makes it difficult to see inside. It does not mean that it completely blocks visibility.
If sunlight is weak due to cloudy weather or other circumstances, or the room is brighter than outside, the mirror effect will not be fully realized.

Q.
Does it have light shielding properties? If so, how much does it darken the room?
A.

Cool Up Heat Shield has essentially no light blocking effect.
It’s roughly the same as a regular screen.

About Cleaning & Care

Q.
Is it okay to spray Cool Up Heat Shield with a hose and wash it?
A.

Spraying it with a hose to wash it is no problem.
However, please refrain from scrubbing it with a hard object such as a brush or scrubbing brush.
We also recommend that you wipe off any dirt first with a soft cloth such as a rag or towel.

Q.
Is it okay to use detergent to wash it?
A.

Yes, it is okay.
Please apply a diluted solution of natural detergent to a rag and wipe it lightly to remove dirt.

Q.
Is it okay to use a pressure washer on it?
A.

Please refrain from using a pressure washer.
The pressure of the water may cause the surface fasteners or even the product itself to come off.
You can easily remove stains by wiping it with a rag or towel.

Q.
Do I have to take it down after summer’s over?
A.

You can leave it up year-round.
Even if you have it up in the winter, it has virtually no cooling effect on the room.

Even in the winter it has a UV protection effect that lessens the effect of sun damage to furniture and floors, and it also still has its mirror effect.

Q.
It says it’s machine washable, but can I wash it normally?
A.

Cool Up Heat Shield is machine washable.
Please fold it so that the stainless steel-coated surface (silver surface) is on the inside, and wash it by itself.
For other precautions, please read the “Cautions when Machine Washing” section of the instruction manual.

Q.
When removing Cool Up Heat Shield, is it possible to cleanly remove the adhesive portion surface fasteners?
Also, please tell me how to remove them.
A.

The adhesive on surface fasteners can harden due to aging and may become difficult to remove.
Should that happen, please remove any adhesive with a spatula, using commercially available adhesive remover agent, taking care not to damage the glass.
Please carefully read the instructions for the adhesive remover agent before using it.

Q.
Is it okay to iron it? (I want to remove the wrinkles.)
A.

Please iron the black surface, not the stainless steel-coated surface, on low heat and with a cloth placed between it and the iron.

About Product Life

Q.
How long is the product life?
A.

Since the net is made of polyester fiber, there is the possibility that it will deteriorate over time and become fragile.
While actual product life varies depending on the usage environment, it can typically be used for about two years.

Q.
How can I determine when it can’t be used anymore (based on product performance)?
A.

Replacement is recommended if the metallic coating disappears and the gray surface starts to appear thin, or if the material becomes easy to tear.

About Using for Other Purposes

Q.
Can I use Cool Up Heat Shield as a substitute for a regular screen?
A.

We have never used it as a replacement screen, so we cannot recommend its use in that way.

Q.
Is it okay to hang it like a curtain?
A.

It is possible for it to be used in that way.
However, please note that, since that is not its prescribed method of use, we cannot make any statements with regard to its effectiveness when used in that way.

Q.
How should I store it after the summer is over?
A.

Please remove your Cool Up Heat Shield, remove any dust, roll it up, and put it away.
However, please do not remove the surface fasteners attached to your window.
(Removing them can cause the fastener adhesive to weaken and become unusable.)
